What are dental implants?
They are medical devices that are surgically implanted into the jaw to restore a person’s ability to chew or their appearance. They provide support for artificial (false) teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures.
What is the advantage of dental implants?
Dental implants behave like natural teeth
One of the biggest advantages of the implant is that it restores full chewing power. Most patients cannot distinguish between their natural teeth and implants. They can eat with it completely normally, and they can brush and floss normally too.
How long is the dental implant process?
Dental implant surgery can take between one and two hours for a single implant. Patients face a waiting game once the surgery is over as the titanium implant rod and jawbone gradually fuse.
What is the patient’s recovery period after transplantation?
Depending on the patient’s ability to heal, this osseointegration process can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months or even longer.
After two weeks, most patients make a full recovery. The implant site may feel a little tender, but it should feel fully healed and normal. The implant will continue to heal and bond to the jawbone for the next 3-6 months, but the initial healing process will be over.
